Team Manager - Children's Locality Team

Welcome and Retention Bonus:

  • £1000 paid in your first month salary and £1000 paid at the end of your 1st completed year in service

  • £2000 paid after your 2nd completed year in service

  • £3000 paid in your 3rd completed year in service and every completed year thereafter.

Whole package totals up to £56,946 (including Retention Bonus)

Team Managers within this service area are able to work flexibly between home and work to meet the needs of the service whilst recognising the benefits that a hybrid model of working can bring.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Social Care Team Manager to support us in delivering our Children's Social Care service. Our objective is to deliver the best outcomes for children and young people. 

As a Team Manager, your role and responsibilities is to manage the statutory duties of the Social Workers and supporting staff whilst overseeing the quality assessing the work of the teams that delivers Child Protection, Child in Need and Assessment and Referral services. Working in partnership with other teams and organisations in health, education and legal services to ensure the best outcomes for the children and young people of the Borough, our Team Managers maintain the highest standards set in our organisation and make positive impacts on the families we help.

Your duties will include: 

  • Managing a team of Social and Specialist Support Workers who hold a caseload of young people who are on the edge of going into care giving management guidance, support and advice 

  • You will quality assure work through ensuring there are robust assessments, plans and outcomes for families and young people

  • Attend strategy meetings focusing on high risk, complex adolescents offering specialist advice around improving outcomes

  • Applying contextualised safeguarding concepts to support staff working with young people whose behaviour is putting them at risk of going into care

  • Work across partners in the Borough including health, education, voluntary sector and others to create joint up plans to support young people

The Borough prides itself on engaging with children and young people, and this is no different in the Localities team with the expectation of staff undertaking direct work with children to elicit their voice and to give age-appropriate clarity and reassurance. 

In Sutton we ensure that our social workers have manageable workloads, regular supervision, and through annual appraisals you will have the opportunity for career development and progression.

About you

The successful candidate will be leading the team to deliver against our statutory obligations in providing Childcare services. You will provide leadership and expert advice to a multidisciplinary team ensuring that services are delivered in a safe and effective way in accordance with statutory requirements and with the application of  early help/preventative interventions. As a Team Manager, a thorough understanding of the frameworks that underpin social work practice combined with to your knowledge and experience will bring insight to the team and the lives of children whilst showing initiative in developing our services to an outstanding standard. The nature of the role is fast paced and requires the experience of working in a high pace team, delivering consistency with the drive, energy and passion to make a difference to children and young people's lives. 

In addition, we would expect the successful candidate to demonstrate the following competences (not limited to):

  • A relevant Professional Qualification in Social Care and registered with the regulatory body Social Work England, with strong evidence of relevant formal post qualifying working experience. 

  • Line management experience and management of multidisciplinary teams 

If you have experience in Children's services, supervising social workers or students, advanced skills and knowledge in child protection and the quality assurance of care planning, and competent in the oversight of assessment and direct work, the role of Team Manager could step next in your career.
