Specialist Social Worker (CAPVA Social Worker) - Fixed term 24 months 

£42,795 to £45,834 plus Golden Hello of £4,500 paid to new starters to Merton, £2,000 market supplement per annum and £963 essential car user allowance per annum.

What is CAPVA?

Respect uses the term Child and Adolescent to Parent Violence and Abuse (CAPVA) to describe the dynamic where a young person (8 years -18 years) engages in repeated abusive behaviour towards a parent or adult carer.

Abusive behaviour can include physical violence; emotional, economic or sexual abuse; and coercive control. It may also include damage to property and abuse towards other family members, particularly siblings.

About the Role

We are looking to recruit to a new role as a Specialist Social Worker based within the Social Work Academy.  This is a non-case holding role where you will work in partnership with an allocated worker and multiagency partners to deliver tailored interventions to families where they are concerns about child and adolescent violence towards parents/carers.  

The role will involve undertaking rapid assessments as well as developing and providing flexible short-term interventions. This is an exciting opportunity as you will be involved in shaping a new support service.  

The ideal candidate will be: 

  • Autonomous, creative with good problem solving skills. 

  • Have good direct work and communication skills including experience and knowledge of working with children and young people with SEND. 

  • Experience of working in a child centred approach to support families experiencing child and adolescent violence towards parents/carers.
