About the role

In Lambeth, we have adopted a systemic approach – our “Children being at the heart of our practice”. This means that when we work with families, we are committed to starting from a position of strength empowering them to build on what is working well to make the necessary change to improve their quality of life.  As part of our ongoing commitment to improve pre-birth practice and outcomes for children and families in Lambeth we are seeking two dedicated Social Workers with experience in completing comprehensive and high-quality Pre-Birth Assessments within Children’s Social Care.

About the Team

In pre-birth, our model and ambition are to enable babies to remain with their parents, or at least within the birth family, where it is safe to do so. To support our vision for children and families, we are looking for experienced Social Workers, with pre-birth experience, who can bring a comprehensive knowledge and skill-base to their work. You must be driven and ambitious - both for yourself and for children and families and be confident in working in partnership to develop the service area.

About you

This is a newly developed role that will provide intensive support during pregnancy to parents, by completing holistic assessments of need and risk and providing specific, goal orientated support. Parents will be supported to achieve and sustain change, enabling them to provide safe appropriate parenting to their baby.

The primary aim is to support parents from the earliest opportunity so that they can safely care for their child from birth. This is through intensive intervention from social workers, family support workers and other professionals. Robust Pre-Birth Assessments are completed alongside this work to allow evidence-based decisions to be made.
Whilst the role will be a case holding position, it will also include promoting and developing pre-birth awareness and practice across Childrens Social Services Teams and working with the community partners to build on and deliver a multi-agency approach to supporting, assessing and care planning for pre-birth children and their families.
