Salary: Grade L- £52,806-£ 55,845per annum plus retention allowance of £ 3927

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is currently recruiting one Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO), situated in the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service. Independent Reviewing Officer's are expected to deliver on all aspects of the Independent Reviewing Officer Handbook, chairing reviews for children looked after, and chairing child protection conferences, should you be required to.

You will liaise closely with social work teams through consultation and have oversight of progression of plans for children.

You will join the Local Authority at an exciting time as we continue to strengthen our practice and expand our ambitions. Over the past few years Supporting Families continues its journey as “Good” (Ofsted 2019), remaining ambitious to continue to build on this progress and this post will be crucial to how this momentum is maintained.

All the successful appointees will need to have ambition, vision and a strong and proven work ethic. The appointees will need to match the ambition of the Authority in continuing to develop and strengthen practice in a busy and challenging Safeguarding environment.

The Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service continues to strengthen its challenge in ensuring that each child’s plan is unique to them and that children have access to advocacy. The successful candidate will need to continue to build upon this work, ensuring the use of the Resolutions Procedure where you have concerns about the progress of a child’s care plan or statutory responsibilities not being fulfilled. The successful candidates will need to have substantial post qualifying experience and have experience of providing social work supervision and support.

About you
  • You should have post-qualifying experience of children and family social work including experience in child protection and planning for children looked after and substantial management experience in statutory social work with children and families. Experience in chairing complex meetings and a good working knowledge of childcare legislation is required.

  • The successful candidates will have excellent communication and leadership skills. You will be required to have face to face meetings for looked after reviews.

  • You are required to hold a relevant social work qualification and be registered with SW England
