About the role

In Lambeth we put children and their families at the heart of practice, and practice at the heart of all that we do. Our new Borough Plan has social justice at the centre and a clear vision for improving outcomes for our children and families.

Reporting directly to the Director of Children’s Social Care (CSC), the role of Assistant Director is both strategic and operational. Assistant Directors form the senior leadership team, setting the strategic direction for the whole directorate and leading and managing operational teams in their area of accountability. Creating the right culture and environment for the workforce to flourish and ensuring operational plans are delivered are core to the job. It requires working collaboratively across the Children, Young People and Learning Department which includes Education, and with partners internally and externally. All Assistant Directors have a key role to play in delivering our Corporate Parenting responsibilities.

About you

We are looking for someone with a proven track record in delivering and leading complex children’s services and a clear ability to do so in a large authority. You will be an excellent strategic manager, with a strong background in professional social care practice, performance management and partnership working. You will need the ability to work collaboratively to lead and embed a performance focused culture to deliver high quality outcomes.
