About the role

Royal Greenwich Kinship Service is seeking to recruit a dynamic Practice Leader to join our innovative and well regarded Permanence Service in providing the best possible outcomes to our Children in Our Care

We are looking for a highly experienced, qualified, registered children and families Practice Leader, with experience of direct social work practice in the permanence service. The successful candidate will perform tasks that will include viability assessments, private fostering assessments, special guardian assessments and connected persons assessments.

You will need a good knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation and guidance which governs Children’s Social Care and Fostering Services and experience of court work.

 The role includes:

  • Assessment of prospective Kinship carers & Special Guardians
  • Assessing, supporting and monitoring our Private Foster Carers
  • Providing regular, professional and effective supervision to kinship carers, offering on-going assessment and supportive challenge of their practice
  • Completion of kinship carers annual reviews
  • Completion of viability assessments for prospective Special Guardians and Kinship carers
  • Delivery of attachment based models of support framed within our systemic practice model
  • Good standard of on-going recording and the ability to prepare thorough & timely reports
  • Working closely with carers to support them to meet the needs of children in accordance with the care plan and delegated authority
  • Facilitating support groups and promoting the continuous professional development of Kinship Carers and Special Guardians
  • Working as part of the team to contribute to the development of the Kinship Service’s best practice
  • Providing ongoing support to families with Special Guardianship Orders including undertaking Adoption and Special Guardians Support Fund applications
  • An expectation of some evening and occasional weekend working
  • Ability to raise awareness about kinship care and private fostering
  • Computer skills with good working knowledge of ICT systems including word and excel

There is an expectation of some evening and occasional weekend working (for which you will receive TOIL). Once a quarter you will be required to cover a week on the Out of Hours emergency support call service for foster carers.
