About the role

Are you passionate about shaping the future of children's residential services? As a Residential Group Manager for the London Borough of Hounslow, you will be a key member of Children Services, leading the strategic development and management of our portfolio of registered children’s homes, including services for children with disabilities and those needing short breaks. You will ensure that our homes provide the highest standard of care, foster a nurturing environment, and remain compliant with Ofsted standards and relevant legislation. This role offers the chance to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and young people, while leading, supporting, and developing dedicated teams across our services.

About The Team You’ll Be Working In

  • Close Collaboration with Registered Home Managers: You will develop and line manage registered managers to ensure all Hounslow’s children’s homes operate smoothly and meet high-quality care standards, offering support and strategic direction.
  • Building a New, Innovative Residential Home: Play a pivotal role in the setup and development of new purpose-built residential homes designed to meet the complex needs of children, ensuring it meets all regulatory requirements.
  • Strong Local Partnerships: Partner with schools, health services, the police, and social workers to build safe and supportive community links for each residential home.
  • Leading Continuous Improvement: You will take the lead on preparing homes for Ofsted inspections, ensuring high standards of care, and implementing changes based on independent visitor reports and feedback.
  • Supporting and Developing Staff: From recruitment to ongoing training and supervision, you will foster a high-performing, motivated team that is passionate about providing excellent care to children and young people.
  • A Unified Approach Across Services: Oversee a diverse portfolio of homes, ensuring that services are integrated with pathways for children aged 16+ and care leavers, ensuring seamless transitions for the young people in our care.
  • You will be working for Childrens and Adults services, reporting directly to the Head of Corporate Parenting.
About you

1.You bring substantial experience working in residential care at a senior level, with a strong track record of leadership and oversight.

2.You have a thorough understanding of The Children’s Homes Regulations (2015), the Children Act, and other key legislation, and can ensure homes are fully compliant.

3.You possess excellent knowledge in child development and trauma-informed practice, applying this expertise to ensure that care is tailored to meet the unique needs of each child.

4.Your leadership style motivates teams, and you excel at recruitment, supervision, and staff development, creating a culture of care that prioritises the well-being and growth of both staff and children.

5.You are adept at managing budgets and resources, ensuring homes are efficiently run, properly resourced, and deliver high standards of care.

6.You have the ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, staff, and external professionals, and can communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.

7.You are committed to staying current with developments in childcare, ensuring the services you manage continually evolve and improve.

  • Excellent Administrative and Financial Acumen: Skilled in managing budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and handling administrative tasks such as report writing, policy development, and compliance checks.
  • Effective Communication and Conflict Resolution: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to mediate and resolve conflicts, ensuring the well-being of children and staff.
