We invite you to join us on Wednesday 22nd January at 19:00 for our latest Children's Social Work Online Recruitment Event, taking place virtually on Microsoft Teams.
This MS Teams online event is for qualified social work candidates at all levels (from Social Worker to Service Manager) to find out more about working with the London Borough of Newham.
You will hear from senior leaders and there will be a presentation on our new Family Support and Safeguarding service; made from a merger of several existing services to provide consistent. high quality support to children and families.
We'll discuss our practice model, career opportunities and progression, the support that is on offer for our practitioners and you will hear from individual services. You'll also be able to ask questions of our recruitment lead - for tips on the recruitment process.
The link to access/join the event will be sent once you have signed up through Eventbrite - we hope to see you there.
Attendees will:
- Hear from senior leaders, including our DCS, Laura Eden.
- Learn more about Circles of Support, our highly commended practice framework.
- Find out about the Family Support and Safeguarding Service - why we have made these changes and how working in the service is best for children, families and colleagues.
- Have the opportunity to directly ask questions of senior leaders, operational managers and our recruitment lead.
- Have an opportunity to directly ask questions about the application and recruitment processes and how to get ahead.
We hope to see you at the event!
The Newham Team.
More info:
We will have vacancies from Social Worker to Team Manager. Vacancies can be viewed at: www.newham.gov.uk
Our ASYE Programme has closed to applications this year and will reopen in early 2025. NQSWs are very welcome to join us at this event to find out more about Newham (though the programme will not actually be live to applicants until late Feb/early March).
We do not yet have the infrastructure in place to support international candidates, so regrettably this event is not for practitioners currently based overseas/without experience of practice within the UK.

We’re a vibrant, dynamic, culturally rich London Borough with a young population and limitless potential. We’re a challenging yet rewarding place for social work practise to flourish and we are steadfastly committed to our workforce being representative of the families that we work with. We are taking coordinated, meaningful and focused action to develop an inclusive culture because we believe this is at the heart of enabling diversity in all respects, including diversity of thought. We are taking positive actions to challenge all forms of discrimination and injustice to help make Newham a fairer and more equitable place for children and families to live, learn and thrive.
We’re building a fairer Newham through investment, co-production and by continuously developing our 'Circles of Support' practice model; centring on systemic and restorative practice and a specialist support offer for our practitioners. Ofsted described Newham as having a positive culture of learning and development and we always try to develop talent in-house. We promoted 30 internal colleagues in 2023 alone, and have put more than 47 practitioners through further education since 2020. We value your development and at Newham career progression is a reality for many of our colleagues.
We understand that social work can be a challenging yet ultimately very rewarding profession that makes demands of you personally and professionally. In Newham we value your wellbeing and we aim to ensure that you have a better work/life balance through a remote working offer when you are not visiting children and families, a modern office space for when you’re on site, a flexible working policy where all requests are considered, and a clinical offer to support you to do your best work.
We’ve been working hard to make Newham a great place to practise social work:
