About the role

The role:

We are currently recruiting a Group Manager post in the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service. The Group Manager will be responsible for managing an experienced and expert group of staff in child protection. You will join the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service at an exciting time as we continue to strengthen our practice and expand our ambitions. We are ambitious to continue to build on the progress made and this post will be crucial to how this momentum is maintained and support our journey in getting from Good to Outstanding. The Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Service continues to strengthen its challenge in ensuring that each child’s plan is unique to them and that children have access to advocacy. We have an established culture that places children at the centre of all our practice, underpinned by an extensive quality assurance framework. You will be responsible for ensuring parents and children are supported to participate and contribute to the child protection plan.

The successful candidate will need to continue to build upon this work. The successful candidate will need to have substantial post qualifying management experience, have experience of providing social work supervision and support, and demonstrate a sound understanding of the legal framework and care planning process governing how the local authority meets its responsibilities. The successful appointee will need to have ambition, vision and a strong and proven work ethic, with a passion for making a positive impact on the lives of children and families. The appointee will need to match the ambition of the Authority in continuing to develop and strengthen practice in a busy and challenging Safeguarding environment.

About you

As Group Manager we are looking for:

  • Strong understanding of what best good practice looks like and be passionate about inspiring and improving children’s lives, as well as the continuous professional development of social work practitioners and team managers.

  • Have a demonstrable track record of leading, motivating and managing teams to achieve significant, sustainable service improvements and outstanding results

  • Proven experience of leading and delivering statutory services

  • Managing and being accountable for high-level risk and decision making in relation to children in need of protection

  • Excellent communication and relationship development skills

  • Knowledge of what excellence looks like and champion best practice and have a thorough working knowledge of relevant legislation and local, regional and national practice that underpins child protection work
