Camden is one of London’s most diverse and vibrant boroughs and we are looking for two highly motivated enthusiastic, individuals to join our Fostering and Permanence Service. We are offering one position on a fixed term basis for 12 months and the other on a permanent basis. If you have a preference please specify in your application.

As a Social Worker in our Fostering and Permanence Service, you will focus on our carers, take responsibility, work together and find better ways of doing things. The role requires enthusiasm, someone with innovative ideas, hardworking values and a strong interest in improving fostering and kinship services and securing permanence for all children within our service.

You will work to find alternative accommodation for looked after children whilst also focusing on securing permanent stable families for children who are not able to remain within the care of their family of origin, without unnecessary delay. With a remit spanning assessing, training, and supporting carers, matching and supervising placements, progressing care planning and service development, you are guaranteed different challenges every day.

We take pride in getting it right first time and you will receive the training and support you deserve to help you deliver for this already first-rate service from day one. If you have the commitment, drive, and ability to deliver high service standards across the borough, then you are the person we are looking for.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS.

About you

For this role, you will need to hold a relevant Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England.

You will bring to the role sound knowledge of the legislative framework relating to children, particularly the Children Act 1989 and all legislation related to family and friends’ carers, Fostering and Special Guardianship Regulations. You will also have a good understanding of the recent legal changes and trends within the family court system.

You will be able to demonstrate skills in dealing with complex issues within the assessment and support of carers and have experience of group work particularly in relation to foster carers and kinship carers.

With your experience, you will bring to the role the ability to deal with conflict effectively, involving and signposting other people and services where applicable. You will be a creative thinker, self-reliant and resilient, knowing how to respond to situations in a positive and effective way to gain successful outcomes in difficult situations.
