The ideal candidate for this role should possess a minimum of five years of post-qualification experience in children’s services, demonstrating a strong background in safeguarding and child protection. Leadership skills are crucial, with a track record of effectively managing, supervising, and coaching staff within children’s social care teams. The candidate should have experience in successful partnership and inter-agency collaboration, managing complex workloads, and delivering results within a business planning framework.
Qualifications include a Social Work qualification and HCPC registration, along with evidence of post-qualification continued professional development. Desirable qualifications involve a recognized management qualification or participation in an organizational leadership or management development program. The candidate should exhibit a profound knowledge of social care legislation, effective practice in delivering services to children and families, and the ability to work creatively in an urban, multi-ethnic community. Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills are essential, along with the ability to make complex decisions, assess and manage risks, and implement strategic thinking. The candidate should also demonstrate competence in budget management, data analysis, and change management, with a focus on attracting, developing, and retaining a highly motivated workforce.
