About Us:

In Kensington and Chelsea, we put our young people first. Improving outcomes for Children and Young People with SEND is one of our top priorities, and we want to do more to ensure that our pupils with SEND can access the support they need, when they need it.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea have been successful in our bid for additional funding from the Department for Education under the Delivering Better Values in SEND programs which includes a 1 year project starting in September 2023 to support more pupils with SEN remain in local mainstream schools and nurseries schools; improving outcomes for our Children & Young People with SEND.

The Role:

As a Strategic Inclusion Practitioner, you’ll work with the members of your team to improve services across the Borough for Children and Young People with SEND.

Working in schools and with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, you’ll support the development of whole school inclusive practices that increase parent confidence in local schools and improve the SEND practices delivered by our mainstream schools and nurseries. Through assessment, guidance development and specialist advice, you’ll identify gaps in the current provision of SEND Services, working to close these gaps and provide Children and Young People across the borough with the tools they need to succeed.

About You:

You will be a qualified teacher or have a minimum of five years of experience in a nursery or school setting, you’ll have experience of working with SEND pupils, and an exceptional knowledge of quality first teaching or the early years framework.

On a personal level you’ll be a natural communicator with excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills. You’ll be capable of building effective working relationships with colleagues and organisations at every level of the council and beyond, and of working in schools and using your honed observation skills to identify areas of possible improvement. Most importantly, you’ll be a person passionate about improving outcomes for Children and Young People with SEND. This is a fantastic, one of a kind opportunity to shape the Kensington and Chelsea SEND Service, and to supercharge your career in the process.

About Kensington and Chelsea

As a social worker, Kensington and Chelsea presents a unique and rewarding work environment. The borough is home to a diverse community and the demographic make up of our staff reflects this.

We are committed to promoting equality and celebrating the benefits of diversity. We are a Disability Confident Employer – committed to ensuring that our recruitment and selection process is inclusive and accessible.

The borough’s commitment to social care is reflected in its innovative approach to service delivery. For example, the Council has established a Bi-Borough partnership with neighbouring borough Westminster, which allows for the sharing of resources and expertise. The partnership has resulted in improved service delivery and better outcomes for vulnerable residents, which was recognised in our last ILACS inspection which found Kensington and Chelsea to be Outstanding in all judgement areas.

“Children in care and care leavers receive an outstanding service from workers who know them exceptionally well and are caring and ambitious for them. There is strong corporate support from the wider council to provide high-quality social work services for children, including significant financial investment so that the conditions are in place for excellent social work practice to flourish.”
