March saw us celebrate Social Work Week 2025, a collective opportunity for reflection and celebration

In London, practitioners came together to share their experiences, perspectives and passion for the profession. London Social Work for Children published a series of four videos, each tied to one of Social Work England’s 2025 themes:

  • Professional identity

  • Education and training

  • Data and insight

These videos feature practitioners from across the capital. Together, they offer a snapshot of what makes children’s social work in London so rewarding and how the profession continues to evolve.

What does being a social worker mean to you?

Released on World Social Work Day, this video captures powerful reflections from London’s social workers. In their own words, practitioners describe a deep commitment to children and families, a sense of purpose, and the pride that comes from helping others navigate complex situations.

This video directly responded to one of Social Work England’s key questions: Is a greater sense of professional identity crucial for the future of social work?

What’s the best training or learning experience you’ve had?

This video explores the diverse learning opportunities available to social workers in London. Many respondents cited their direct work with children and families as their most meaningful learning experience.

Others highlighted specific training programmes including Mind of My Own, Your Choice, and Systemic Practice Foundation courses. Demonstrating the value of both formal and experiential learning, the video responds to the theme of how we support social workers at every stage of their career.

Sam's guide to learning & development in London

Sam Nair, Principal Social Worker and Head of the Learning Academy at Tower Hamlets, shares his insights on learning, career development and the importance of lived experience.

As one of London’s leading advocates for international recruitment and workforce investment, Sam discusses how social work has changed and why ongoing innovation is key to the future of the profession.

What does children's services data tell us?

Rashid Jussa, Strategic Intelligence Lead at the London Innovation and Improvement Alliance (LIIA), reflects on the role of data in shaping children’s services.

From workforce planning to understanding community needs, Rashid explores how data can support practitioners to ask the right questions, plan effectively, and improve outcomes for young people. His insights directly address Social Work England’s theme of data-informed practice.

Each of these videos was created to celebrate the diversity and professionalism of children’s social work in London. Together, they reached thousands of people across social media and provided a platform for practitioners to lead the conversation.
