This World Mental Health Day, it's important for everyone to invest some time in their own wellbeing.

Dr Karla Goodman, a psychologist at the London Innovation & Improvement Alliance (LIIA) who leads on the groundbreaking Your Choice violence reduction programme, knows that anyone who supports or helps others with their mental and emotional health deserves a chance to focus on their own.

Her suggestion for how to do this is by soothing your senses - commit to doing one of the below suggestions, or something similar:

A grid of six different suggestions for soothing the senses. (1) Go to your favourite place, take in all the sights, look at some photos that make you smile; (2) Listen to your favourite music, create a playlist of your favourite tunes and sing along like no one is listening; (3) Put on your favourite fragrance, use a scented shower gel or light a scented candle; (4) Tickle your taste buds. Cook one of your favourite recipes, eat some of your favourite food or non-alcoholic drink (in moderation); (5) Take a long hot bath or shower, have a cuddle with your cat or dog, hug someone or tuck up under a heavy blanket; (6) Go for a run, stretch, dance, go to the gym. Move your body in whatever way you can.
