The Royal Borough of Greenwich have opened a new children's home, the Adolescent Assessment Resource and Residential Centre (AARRC).

Providing safety and support for looked-after teenagers, AARRC strengthens Greenwich's commitment to providing a stable and secure environment. It offers various placements depending on each young person's unique circumstances, complemented by personalised care plans collaboratively designed with the young people and their families.

The grand inauguration took place with the cutting of the ribbon by Cllr Matt Morrow, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People. Expressing the importance of this facility, Cllr Morrow stated

"Children in care face extraordinary challenges from a very young age, so we need to do everything we can to make sure they can reach their potential. The AARRC will be the closest thing to a home routine for teenagers who are unable to live with their parents. They will get all the love and support they need, in a friendly and safe environment. The stability that a children’s home offers is so vital and I know that the impact of the AARRC will be felt for generations to come.”

Onder Beter - Greenwich's Assistant Director of Children and Families who recently told the story of his journey through social work - was also involved in the process.

"The AARRC is place where we could assess and support teenagers requiring residential care and support. Additionally, AARRC offers outreach work to facilitate family-reunification and will have two clinical practitioners providing therapeutic support to children and parents/carers. We have compassionate and dedicated staff who are passionate, and they believe in children.

From the onset, our young people have spent a lot of time at the AARRC, provided us with brilliant ideas about design of the place, house rules, colour of paints, pictures and photos hung on the walls, activities planned at the AARRC, where to eat and relax, etc. We have listened to them to see what would make them feel comfortable and happy at home! RBG has co-designed the AARRC with children and young people to make it a place called home!"
