About children's social work in Hackney

It is an exciting time to be working in Hackney as we are embedding our Systemic, Trauma informed and Anti-Racist (STAR) practice model. We are an innovative borough where we collaborate to support change for the children and families we work for and for each other. You will change and develop while working in Hackney and we will be behind you every step of the way. So, why don't you find yourself in Hackney?

In our last Ofsted inspection, July 2024, we were rated Good. Inspectors found:

  • effective partnership working and interventions;
  • timely and well recorded visits;
  • a good understanding of the impacts of trauma and a strong focus on identity, culture and ethnicity and what this means for families;
  • strengthened quality assurance processes and leadership oversight.

They recognised the impact of our Systemic, Trauma-informed and Anti-Racist (STAR) practice model and said that “Leaders have successfully developed services that are making a positive difference to children’s lives.” They also praised our effective early help and clinical support offers.

Our Anti-Racist Practice Standards and support for staff to develop their active anti-racist practice is something we’re very proud of. Our 2022 Anti-Racist Practice Conference has been nationally awarded by the Children and Young People Now Awards.

In the 2023 HMIP inspection of our Youth Justice service, we were applauded for our ‘powerful anti-racist stance’ and were awarded an overall rating of ‘Good’.

That pride we have in our profession, our approach, our staff, our children and families, and our communities is what makes us different. We are proud to be Hackney.

We are a small borough, with excellent transport links, making it easy to get around. There is no need for a car and many of our social workers are able to cycle or walk to their visits.
